Voice over IP Telephone (VoIP)

3CX Phone System for Windows. This is a software-based IP PBX that replaces a proprietary hardware PBX. It has been developed specifically for Microsoft Windows and is based on the SIP standard – making it easier to manage and allowing you to use any SIP phone (software or hardware). The software is free or very low cost and can be installed on any Windows-based PC or server, or a virtualised server; installation and management is easy using a browser interface. The system is great for saving on call costs using SIP trunks and employees can work from home using a remote extension. There is a client for Android that means you can make and receive calls on your Android-based mobile phone via the system as long as you are connected to the Internet either at the office or travelling anywhere in the world. A client for iPhone is due in September 2010.

Virtualization

Xen Hypervisor is an Open Source virtualisation software that makes it possible to run multiple instances of the same or different operating systems on a single server. This means that you can make the best use of your resources by consolidating your server requirement into the smallest possible hardware footprint. There is no downside to Xen since it is free and it provides excellent opportunities to maximise the performance of your server environment.
 
The Xen Hypervisor is inserted between the server's hardware and operating system. It provides an abstraction layer that allows each physical server to run one or more "virtual servers", effectively decoupling the operating system and its applications from the underlying physical server.  

Cloud-Based server backup

The Intersignia Online Backup solution makes full use of the Amazon EC2 Cloud services to provide a highly cost-effective, yet comprehensive, online backup solution for multiple server platforms including Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. It protects server system states, Active Directory, Exchange, SQL server environments as well as file data. In particular, the system is highly granular and can comprehensively protect Exchange down to the individual mail message level. Open Source Storage Appliance Software

Openfiler is an open source software product that turns your old or redundant server(s) into an iSCSI storage device or a NAS (Network Attached Storage). Openfiler allows you to configure your disk subsystem much as you would with any other server OS – including setting up and managing multiple disks into a RAID array. And it has some very advanced features that include Ethernet bonding (to increase network performance and throughput) and block level replication using rsync.
